Yesterday I watched a movie called Sala Samobojcow (Suicide Room). It’s about a boy called Dominik who leads a perfect life in some sense, I suppose. He’s rich, goes to a great school and dates a pretty girl. However following some unexpected events which involve kissing another boy and being bullied, his parents being emotional detached and dedicated to their jobs rather than their family. He turns to the internet for help and he meets Sylwia, a young girl who is obsessed with suicide and plans to end her life. He begins to cut himself away from the outside world and locks himself up in his room with Sylwia as his only company.

Sala Samobojcow highlights things that I think people prefer to pretend isn’t there or would not be told about. It’s about feelings, feelings people have everyday but amplified or at least I think that’s how Dominik feels. He is bullied for being sexually attracted to a boy (who is an absolute prick if you don’t mind me saying so) and his parents don’t know how to deal with this and by trying to, they push him further away.

The dialogue is entirely in polish but I was so into it that I hardly noticed it. It’s a great film and very emotional. Glad I watched but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’ve just come out of the rut(emotionally that is). It carries the ability to trigger…trust me I know.
