The old fellow who told me I should take a trip to Naples

I met a man in the library today. Well I didn’t actually meet him because we didn’t exactly share a pleasant conversation or anything like that. I sort of shared a moment…I’m not sure what else to call it.

I encountered him at library. I walked in and searched for a place to sit. At first seeing that there were quite a few people there I decided to search for a another table…turns out it’s the only one there. So I made my way back and awkwardly squeezed past a couple of people and sat right in front of him.

Now this guy is old, very old. He’s wearing this giant thick rimmed glasses and his eyes are hardly open anyway. He’s eating his lunch and looks like it’s the greatest lunch in the history of lunches because he looks happy, all right! So when I pull my chair out making such a racket. He looks up at me and suddenly his lunch doesn’t seems so great.  So I awkwardly sit down trying not to draw too much attention to myself, pull out my notebook and start writing. He glances at me a couple of times and just eats his lunch quietly and I try to focus on writing.

The old fellow finishes eating and he begins to pack his things away. Even though I am so very aware of him I don’t take my eyes off my notebook, not once. As he’s about to leave he stops and returns to the table and looks at a pile of books and pushes them towards me. I look up at him and unsmiling he walks away. When I’m sure he has left through the door, I look at the books and it’s a pile of travel books and the one on top is a guide through Naples.

I don’t know how, maybe it’s just coincidence maybe I’m making this into something that it isn’t but he either knew I wanted to travel the world or just thought it would be funny to fuck with my head. I don’t know what but I felt a rush of happiness, I took it as sign that I’m supposed to see the world. And because I’m mad as a hatter I’ll take that old fellows word for it, I’m not meant to stay still.

Crossing and recrossing the country every year, south in the winter and north in the summer, and only because he had no place he could stay in without getting tired of it and because there was nowhere to go but everywhere, keep rolling under the stars, generally the Western stars.

Kyoto Japan (by olivier barjolle)
I’ve always wanted to go here..see old Japan if it’s there, that is.
Also I want to learn to fight, does Japan provide that?

Stockholm Sweden (by olivier barjolle)
Sweden, is probably one of the most beautiful places on planet earth…no joke. Therefore I must venture there, I don’t think any traveller can say they’ve seen everything there is to see until they’ve dragged their ass to Sweden.
I’ve been there once when I was eight. It was beautiful and all but the people weren’t very welcoming. Well, there were these girls who befriended me and then suddenly and unexpectedly told me to fuck off. But I’m giving Sweden another shot.

San Francisco USA (by olivier barjolle)
After watching Milk I wanted to go here, just for a while, just for little bit. Maybe just enjoy the sun for a while, everywhere else I want to go just seems to be known for being terribly cold all the time.

New York (by Lauren Keogh)
I talk about New York all the time. I feel it’s a place where I can start out really well. It’s as if everything I want to do can only be achieved there, in New York. That’s not entirely true but it sure feels like it. It’s quite the land of opportunity though.
I like the city life; I’ve always wanted to live it. I know it’s not as easy as it may look but I’m not realist I don’t have time to really think about the decisions that I make. Thinking just gives me more of a reason not to travel at all and BELIEVE me there are plenty of reason why I shouldn’t go. So when I’m ready, I’ll hop on the first plane there.
I think if all else fails (for the second time), I’ll settle here or London and open a art gallery or work for as a journalist.

Paris France (by olivier barjolle)
I see myself wandering the streets of France one day. I’m desperate to go there, I suppose for the same reason why everyone wants to go France. I keep picturing myself writing in a cafe or typing in my run-down French apartment. I see myself old, so this is probably one of the last places I’m going. Nevertheless France is the destination! I’m thinking If all else fails (by that I mean if no one wants to publish my work) I’ll stay in France, own a theatre that runs both old and new movies :)
